The Papery’s story began in Toronto in the early 1970s, when Sylvia and her business partner Valerie opened the first Papery location. Their vision was simple yet enduring to share a love of fine stationery, beautiful paper, and the art of meaningful connection. The boutique quickly became a destination for those who appreciated thoughtful design and the timeless charm of a handwritten note.
When Sylvia’s son Michael later moved west, she helped him bring that same creative spirit to the West Coast. In 1996, The Papery Victoria opened its doors on Fort Street, carrying forward the family’s passion for craftsmanship, quality, and genuine connection. For nearly three decades, the shop has remained locally owned and family-run, offering a welcoming space for those looking to celebrate life’s moments through cards, gifts, and the joy of writing.
Now, as Nolan, the third generation of the family, begins taking over operations, The Papery continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. With an ever-growing collection of stationery, fountain pens, and writing tools, the store stands as a reflection of three generations’ shared belief that small gestures, made with care, can leave lasting impressions.
