Patrick Amos was born in 1957 on Nootka Island on the west coast of Vancouver Island into the Mowachaht/Muchalaht band which is one of thirteen bands that make up the Nuu-Chah-Nulth Nation. Patrick began his actistic career as a printmaker and designer.

He began carving wood in 1979 under the direction of Tony Hunt Sr. at the Arts of the Raven Studio and then joined Time Paul in 1984 to carve in Thunderbird Park at the Royal British Columbia Museum.

He has had a long-term relationship with the Royal British Columbia Museum shop and galleries throughout the Northwest Coast

Thunderbird 

Thunderbirds are the highest flying animals, and have a strong spiritual connection in Nuu-chah-nulth culture. Thunderbird, which is a huge bird that lived in the mountains, is known as the bringer of storms (hence its name), and is also closely connected to whaling, as its main food source are whales.
